On the 24th and 25th of October 2019, Freddie Villis, Account Lead for FinTech, attended the Vedicard Event Payments Market Conference in cooperation with European Payments Consulting Association (EPCA), in the city of Riga. This year was Snowdrop’s first time in attendance.
The event was a gathering of around 280 finance professionals from various institutions across Europe; largely the Nordic and Baltic regions. Notable attendees and sponsors included Wirecard, Mastercard, Bank of Lithuania and Swedbank. A coming together of banks, e-money institutions, software development and regulatory bodies made for interesting debate and unique thought leadership.
Freddie presented how leveraging location intelligence for digital financial services can deliver a delightful experience to end users.

The core of Freddie’s presentation centred on how users have become accustomed to location intelligence when ordering food (Deliveroo), looking for the best restaurant in town (TripAdvisor) or even playing real-time games (PokemonGO). Location is playing a big part of our lives in the present and it made sense for digital banks to find a way to integrate its benefits on their offering.
From transaction transparency to fighting fraud, Freddie covered some best practices implemented by some of our customers by using our solutions and products (Merchant Reconciliation System – MRS) and Google Maps Platform.
Freddie also raised the issue of the near future collaboration between travel and fintech and how to best merge both sectors capabilities by using Location Intelligence. These are also the main ideas we are looking forward to sharing with leaders in the digital banking landscape in future conferences we are attending such as Fintech Connect in London, next 3rd to 5th of December.
